PHP Fusion has been selected as the new content management system and development framework for GB WEBS and The Webmasters Bureau (Web-Bureau.com).
After much deliberation and with no release date in site for the new version of phpBB (Olympus) we decided to look at other options for delivering our website development solutions.
We still love phpBB which is true to it's word: '...a high powered, fully scalable, and highly customizable Open Source bulletin board package. ... user-friendly interface, simple and straightforward administration panel, and helpful FAQ. ...the ideal free community solution for all web sites.'.
Version 2 was stable as I'm sure Olympus will be soon after release but we couldn't put a timescale on how long it would take to complete all the modifications necessary to develop the systems we had in mind. End result - we had to move on.
Our decision to move to PHP Fusion wasn't made lightly however. After becoming extremely comfortable with phpBB, a move to PHP Fusion and another learning curve was off putting as were the constant threat of hacking attempts. After some initial testing however, we are hopeful that these are minor hurdles.
So what swung PHP Fusion in our favour? Top of the list is the code base which is easy for newbies to get to grips with.
A close second in our list of considerations was that the software features enable us to deliver solutions in three key areas:
1. Beginners - Looking for a reliable system with a preconfigured functionality (forums, articles, downloads etc.).
2. Developers - Able to see the benefits in the system for themselves and able to take the CMS and use it in a multitude of ways.
3. Hands-off Users - Site owners who we develop sites for, who aren't interested in the workings of the system but need a website they can update easily should they need to.
Last, but not least, we really like the simple, user friendly interfaces.
